Homeland Security Inadequate for Agroterrorism
Presently, food security or rather, agroterrorism is not adequately addressed by the Department of Homeland Security. Read Secretary Chertoff's testimony regarding agroterrorism.

The pertinent discussion is found almost at the end of the document. After opening the page, use the "find tool" and enter agriculture, agroterrorism or food and it will take you to that part of the testimony for this information.
The more persons incorporated into the overall responsibility for food security, the less agroterrorism has the possibility to occur.

Thank you for the ongoing useful information about a topic that concerns all Americans.
More attention needed to critical daily resources.
CNN's John Roberts has produced an excellent expose that is very real, indeed-"We Were Warned". Also, Dr. John Ikerd, Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics at the University of Missouri, presented "Breaking our Fossil-Energy Addiction through Organic Foods and Farming" at the 2006 Renewable Energy Roundup and Green Living Fair held at Fredricksburg, Texas in August. On their own, these two presentations provide more than enough glaring reasons for each of us to adjust and modify our daily activities that would reduce our use of fossil fuel.
Of main concern to this Blog is food production, its security and availability in the North Texas region in sustainable amounts to feed the population without the possibility of dwindling levels.
The dependency on fossil fuel and the attention given to its maintenance is diverting people's attention away from the development and maintenance of resources that are critical to daily living, such as growing food.
It is the hope of this Blog to raise awareness of this resource by bringing attention to the origin and method of production of one's food sources and to encourage "Home Vegetable Gardens" through "Swap Produce Clubs". For more information go to: www.puregreenusa.net

Read the report of Facts and Figures for the Department of Homeland Security. Go to: http://www.aei.org/docLib/20061214_FactsandFigures.pdf Then weep. Not a cent for the prevention of agroterrorism. Grant it, there has been some flurry of activity since the recent bacterial scares to increase the ability to discover these outbreaks before they are widespread. But where are the programs to help reduce the possibility of the incidence of this happening?
